Poetry Group

Our Poetry Group meets each fortnight on a Wednesday morning 10.15 for 10.30 till 11.30. New members are welcome. Each session a subject is chosen and picture of a book with pages being flippedeveryone gets to read out loud their own personal choice. Depending on the amount of chatter and discussion, each person usually manages two (or three) selected poems which uplift, entertain, educate and make us laugh and think. It's an ecumenical group, and some members “have a go”, writing their own verse, but most just like reading poetry. We’ve given several poetry readings within the Penn area, and any donations we’ve received have been given to our Springdale Wives’ Charity, or Springdale Church. We meet in the atrium.

Penn Puppets

Penn Puppets is an ecumenical team of people of all ages with a passion for using puppets as tools for mission. We take the Christian message of God’s love for all into local primary and special schools. We also enjoy using our puppets to tell stories or sing songs during worship.

Penn Puppets began in 2002. Since then close friendships have flourished and increasingly professional skills have been acquired.

If you would like to join us, please contact Ursula McInnes or Maureen Harper at St Barts or Lesley Cook via Springdale Methodist Church (01902 338420).

Springdale Art Class

Picture of the Springdale Art Class in full swingSpringdale Art Class began in 2006, when local artist Les Hinton was asked if he would like to begin a class for members of the Church and their friends. Since then 20 or so folk have met every Thursday afternoon from 2-4pm. As Les is no longer able to teach us, we have become a self-help group. The atmosphere is friendly, caring and informal. Everyone is given encouragement and new friendships have been made. Entry to the class is £2. Please do come and join us. Contact Lesley Cook via the Church Office 01902 338420.

Bowling Group

Photograph of the Bowling Group in actionThe bowling group meets every Monday throughout the year from 2-4pm with the exception of some Bank holidays. It is not confined to Church members and we have a wide variety people from all walks of life who regularly attend.

We have two short mats and sufficient equipment to accommodate 24 people at any meeting and all are welcome. We do not necessarily achieve a particularly high standard but we are reasonably good amateurs and do have some fun. In addition when it is not one’s turn to bowl much of the time is spent just chatting.

We have a break of some 15 minutes at about 3pm for tea and biscuits/cakes.

If you are interested in playing have a word with John Hodgson or any of the members or even just come along at any time even if it’s only to "have a go" to see whether you would enjoy it. No previous experience is necessary and it would get you away from afternoon tele or even sleeping in the fireside chair.

You may be assured of a warm welcome.
